County Hunter CW Net Procedures

A Mobile's Run on the Net

The following are examples of actual runs made on the CW county hunters net. These are really a test of reality vs theory when running a county.

A Run Without a Net Control

This was the run of Grainger, TN made by WD3P/M in October 2001 transcribed from a tape made that day. This was a very simple run, no net control and no relays. And while I called it a pileup there was never a time when more than one person was calling at a time. That is very unusual. Notice the straggler at the end. Likely he had be working someone on the phone the net, or had stepped away from the rig and came back at the very end of the run. This run took place on the trip home from the 3M convention. Several counties had been run already and the net was busy with mobiles running themselves. I already knew that there was no net control. It was likely if a mobile was running I would have heard him or the pileup working him. So a quick QRL? was all that was needed to verify that the net was not busy.

A Run With a Net Control

The following run was made in August of 2000 by WD3P/M in Currituck NC. Jeff, W9MSE was the net control for the run. It starts with WD3P/M checking into the net in response to a request for mobile checkins.

And that was all there was to it. The run took less than ten minutes.
